We want to remove the fogginess you may be experiencing by explaining what counselling is about. If this is the very first time that you are considering receiving counselling or if you've had it before, you will probably have many questions lingering in your mind. This section has been created to give you clarity and knowledge about our counselling alliance and to make this process as transparent as possible.
Here are the most common questions, I hope these are helpful to you and if you still feel that some questions remain unanswered, please don't hesitate contacting me. I'd love to chat with you and clarify any details.
What is Counselling?
Seeking counselling therapy is a courageous thing to do! I am beyond proud of you for being here. Few people willingly admit that they need help and support at some point in their lives. Often individuals or couples come feeling overwhelmed by their current circumstances. Counselling individuals or couples is a very personal endeavour where the counsellor seeks to walk alongside the person's path, not as an expert in life who has life figured out but as a trained fellow traveller who has also been hit by the lows of life. My top priority in counselling is to help you realize that you are not fighting alone and that you have professional support, encouragement and an advocate to help you navigate the pressuring circumstances you are experiencing.
What could you get out of Counselling?
The potential benefits of receiving counselling are:
-
Increased self-awareness.
-
New perspectives on problems or unused opportunities.
-
Sense of clarity and renewed hope for the future.
-
Probable outcomes resulting from resolving specific concerns brought to counselling.

There are also potential risks when receiving counselling:
-
In working to achieve the potential benefits mentioned above, counselling will require that firm efforts be made to change and may involve the experience of significant discomfort. As an example, you may come feeling relatively comfortable and leave feeling annoyed, tired, upset, or vulnerable and defenseless following a session.
-
Outside life may be altered in such a way that significant people in your life may have adverse reactions to the changes.
Will your Healthcare Provider/ Insurance cover your Counselling?
We will provide you with a Receipt that can be used to submit your claim to your Healthcare Provider. Many people have access to Healthcare Plans through their employers and many offer counselling coverage as part of their plan. Please contact your Healthcare Plan and ask them to provide you with your detailed coverage towards counselling services. My registration information is:

What is my role as your counsellor?
My goal as your counsellor is to help you deal with emotional pain and problems. During counselling we will look at your past but we will also aim to discover your present and how it is being influenced by your past relationships, culture, environment, belief system and other important factors that make you uniquely special. I seek to offer you a space that fosters emotional, psychological and spiritual healing as we focus on helping you overcome weaknesses and develop new strengths towards a more fulfilled life. I will also look at your feelings by identifying what you are experiencing inside. We will work together in partnership through the development of strategies to reach your pre-identified goals. Above all, my most honest goal as your counsellor is for you to feel loved and accepted by creating a safe space for you to heal.
